# Resource

> A single thing a Collector found.

A **Resource** is one thing a [Collector](/concepts/discovery/collector) found: a service, a model, an agent, a function.

## What a Resource Carries

| Field | What it tells you |
| - | - |
| **Identity** | A stable identifier for the thing itself, distinct from what any single scan observed |
| **Type** | What kind of thing it is: agent, model, function, runtime |
| **[Classification](/concepts/discovery/classification)** | Whether it is AI, and the written reason for that verdict |
| **Evidence** | Where the Collector saw it, what answered on which port, and what the verdict rests on |
| **Sightings** | Every scan that has observed it, including first seen and last seen |
| **Source** | Which Collector reported it, and from which [Target](/concepts/discovery/target) |

## Identity Across Rescans

Discover identifies a Resource by the most durable signal available to the Collector that found it. Identifiers fall into two groups:

| Group | Based on | Survives a rescan |
| - | - | - |
| **Name-based** | The name a catalogue gives it: a Kubernetes service path, a deterministic cloud resource identifier | Yes |
| **Observation-based** | What the thing looked like: a certificate, a host and port, an inferred fingerprint | Not reliably |

Observation-based identities shift during ordinary operations. A certificate renews, a host takes a new address, or a model list changes. The same service then returns under a different identifier.
